Dear Prayer Partner,

I hope that you are well and that you had a good rest over the summer. I am now well settled in to life here again, having been back for 4 months. So what has been happening over those 4 months?

In July and August we had teams come out to work in Concepción and the surrounding areas which was a real encouragement for everyone here. The team which was here in July did building work in San Juan, one of our annexes, and also worked with children of the area. The leaders and the work with the children there had suffered a ‘few blows’ and were struggling, so it was a good opportunity to get that up and running again, and they have been carrying on with renewed enthusiasm ever since.

The teams had also bought a vehicle to use while they were here and when they had finished they left it with us for the work with the children and young people. It has already proved really useful, for the work within the city. It also means that we can visit more regularly the places that we work outside of Concepción. We thank God for his provision. It was a total surprise for us to be offered it. As a church we have prayed for it dedicating it to the Lord, for His kingdom, and our prayer is that through the use of it His kingdom will grow.

The second team, from Ballyholme church, came in August, and worked with youth and children within Concepción. Their visit co-incided with “Children’s Day” which is celebrated here in memory of the children who died in one of the wars. Most of the men died and the women and children went to war. We work with kids in so many places the day lasted two weeks. We had games, and food, a wee present for each one, clowns, singing, and taught them about “The Second Coming” and being ready, using the story from Matthew 25:1-13. It was a special time and good, just to be with the kids, and to see their joy and laughter. Many of them suffer so much in all sorts of ways so it meant a lot just to see them enjoying themselves.

As a result of the “Children’s Day” celebrations, we have some new kids coming to many of the different meetings and clubs, which is great. We were also invited to go to one of the schools, General Diaz, where Alison works with the young people, to celebrate the day with them. It was a one off event, but was a good opportunity and a good contact, and maybe one day the Lord will open the door for something more regular there.

Over the past months a lot of our time has been spent in the pastoral care of a number of the kids. So many things have come to light of terrible things that are happening in their homes, and of awful influences that many of them are exposed to. A good number of them have been abandoned by both of their parents, often because one has left and the other one goes off to find work somewhere else. Others are badly treated in one way or another. Others are exposed to occult practices going on in their homes. These are to name but a few. In the midst of this many of the children shine and are an example in their home and the city. You can see how the Lord protects them and cares for them in the midst of their suffering.

In one home there are 7 children from 4 different families, all living with their grandmother, as their mums and dads are all elsewhere. In this home the children gather together each day to read the Bible and pray. Please pray for them, for the Lord’s continued protection for each of them over every area of their life and for Lourdes the eldest girl amongst the 7. She is 13 and is a wee star. She goes round and visits sick people and prays for them. But she suffers so much as well and carries so much responsibility. She, and all of the 7 need a lot of prayer. Thank you for your prayers for these children. Our prayer is that God will lift up a new generation of kids, of youth, growing into adults who know Him and love Him, and fear Him, and serve Him and are faithful to Him. Many of them are already saying that one day they want to serve God, teaching other children, as youth leaders, as worship leaders etc. Please pray that it will be so. Jesus said  “Let the children come to me.” Our desire is to see them come, and then to go and bring others.

I love the verses in Matthew 21 where it talks of the children shouting praises to Jesus, and how it says “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise.”  Norma, one of the childrens’ leaders, has a 5 year old daughter Beti. She went to school a few weeks ago to pick her up and Beti’s schoolteacher told her that at break-time Beti had gathered the other children together, sat them down and started to tell them a Bible story, the story we had been doing that weekend. It is an example for all of us and one we hope and pray to see more and more of that.

One other area we would appreciate prayer for is our work with children in a place called Inmaculada. The work there started 2 years ago, as a result of a Franklin Graham evangelistic campaign. We are meeting in someone’s house at the minute, but are losing that as a meeting place for a variety of reasons, and as yet have nowhere else to go. We desperately need somewhere soon and are seeking God for His plan and will in it all.

Well, that is enough for now. Thank you so much for sharing this work with us. Thank you for all your love and support and prayers which mean so much. We appreciate it. We give thanks to God for you.

God Bless you loads.

Love

Claire.
